Fiona paints in oils and specialises in portraits. She can be commissioned to paint individuals or groups. 

She also does commissions for the ‘Seen’ series, bracketing a lifetime with a childhood photo rendered to paint, and a current portrait.

She works from either a live sitting or from photographs – or from a combination of both.

Fiona’s focus in a portrait is to portray an emotional depth in the sitter. Her style is gestural, allowing the brush-strokes to tell the story of the process of painting, while also paying attention to a good likeness of the sitter.

“Emotion is not something that I apply to the portrait, it emerges as I pay attention to light, structure, form and colour. It has a magical quality to it that surprises me every time. The portrait comes alive and it feels like the sitter has revealed an inner part of themselves that only unfurls with the time and attention needed to make a painted portrait”
